The Law Office of Stuart L. Douglas, LLC represents and advises clients who are or might become involved in a lawsuit or appeal as a result of a dispute. We are often retained before a lawsuit is filed to help force a resolution without the need for expensive and time-consuming litigation.
We counsel clients on the practical aspects of litigating claims, including the use of mediation, arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution methods. We also assist clients in assessing their risk of litigation and in constructing strategies to reduce or eliminate that risk.
Our business litigation practice includes disputes involving breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, landlord/tenant disputes, personal injury, and torts.
Did you know that going to court is not the only way to handle a case?
Many cases can be settled through an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) method such as mediation or arbitration. We are happy to help you decide what method is best for your unique situation and case as well as help you through the process of settling your case using an alternative dispute resolution method.
Mediation is when the parties involved in a dispute work with an outside party, a mediator, to come up with a solution to the conflict that satisfies everyone involved. Using mediation is a good way to avoid parties feeling like there is a winner and a loser is the end since the end result is a compromise between all parties.
Arbitration is when the parties agree to have an arbitrator or multiple arbitrators make a decision on their case instead of going to court and having a judge hear the case. There are many advantages and disadvantages to using arbitration depending on the case.
